Welcome to Inside HuMed

For 25 years I've worked in emergency medicine, caring for children and their families. The moments that stay with me are rarely the diagnoses. They're the conversations in the hallway, the parent who needed one more minute, the colleague who went quiet after a hard shift.

That's why I started HuMed. Every week I sit down with a physician and ask about the part of medicine that never makes it into the chart: the patient they still think about, the mistake that changed them, the moment they almost walked away.

Inside HuMed is where I'll share what stays with me after each of those conversations. When a new episode comes out, I'll post my own take here: what surprised me, what I'm still thinking about, and what I think it means for those of us who work in medicine and the people who love us. Some weeks I'll add the moments that didn't fit in a clip, and now and then a note from my own years in the pediatric ER.

If you'd like these in your inbox, sign up for the HuMed newsletter. You'll get every new episode along with my weekly take.

Thanks for being here.
